About Me

RaggedyMom: United States; I am the 40 year old Mom of a teen who has and continues to suffer from a severe anxiety disorder. I am also a wife, a stepmom, and a teacher. From the time I was a teenager, my life has been a series of hard lessons and less-than-forgiving consequences. Now, I struggle to hold my son's head and heart above the water that is his biggest fear while continuing to find purpose in all we have learned 10 years later. FROM ONE PARENT TO OTHERS:

1. If your child exhibits any signs of depression, get them help right away. Don't wait for something irreversible!
2. Do your research BEFORE something happens. Read about treatments for teens with depression - old, new, and the most commonly used. FYI: most commonly used does not necessarily mean the safest!
3. Don't let anyone tell you that they know more than you do. YOU are the parent. Get legal help immediately and know your rights.
4. Demand that doctors listen to your concerns. Question any medications and side effects. Contact your local Family Services Dept. for information regarding State and local treatment facilities and other options.
5. If you suspect your child is being bullied, confront the school officials immediately and don't take no for an answer. Again, if you have to, seek out legal advice and take your concerns to all levels of administration. Don't confront the child bully or the parents without having first notified the school and/or law enforcement.
